INTERPOL present CWIT project at Environmental Inspections & Compliance Workshop

On the 10^th of December INTERPOL’s CWIT project participants, Therese Shryane and Susan Van Den Brink attended a workshop on Environmental Inspections and Compliance organized by the European Commission and IMPEL in Rome.

The workshop was about a possible initiative as a follow-up to the policy-deliberations captured by the 7th EAP (Environmental Action Programme) which refers to the need to extend rules on environmental inspections in order to enforce EU environmental law and guarantee a level playing field. The overall objective of the initiative is to ensure compliance by duty-holders with the obligations that they have under EU environment law. This should make it of interest to a wide range of public authorities with oversight or enforcement functions: environmental agencies and inspectorates; regional and local authorities; and general-purpose law enforcement agencies such as the police, customs and prosecutors.

INTERPOL presented the CWIT project and the topic of supply chain security (e.g. at collection points). The European Commission will take the presentations into account and is now finalizing the concept of risk assessment, that will be considered to be implemented on a European level.
